The unbeaten Mt. Vernon boys swimming team knew it. Marauders head coach Brad Grieshop calculated its probability multiple times.
The Mt. Vernon seniors anticipated it a goal four-plus years in the making.
All the Marauders needed to do was seize it, and on Saturday as they stood atop the winner’s podium together at New Palestine High School, they collectively made history.

FORTVILLE Even with a mask concealing his face Monday night, Mt. Vernon senior Aiden Tierney was smiling underneath.
Far from a boastful grin, Tierney’s reaction to the Marauders boys’ dual win, 109-74, over rival Greenfield-Central was one filled with optimism rather than arrogance as he thought ahead towards this weekend’s Hoosier Heritage Conference meet and beyond.
Anchored by a solid senior nucleus, the Marauders continue to showcase their potential this season, and their fifth straight dual win to improve to 5-0 and 3-0 against HHC foes presents them with a big opportunity this Saturday at New Palestine High School.

FORTVILLE Neither side was at full strength Monday night, but regardless of being shorthanded due to COVID-19 quarantines, the Mt. Vernon Marauders and the Greenfield-Central Cougars refused to let up.
Not with the Hoosier Heritage Conference swimming and diving championships only days away at New Palestine, beginning Thursday for the girls and Saturday for the boys.
Among those focused on gaining momentum prior to this week’s HHC opportunity was Mt. Vernon senior Aiden Tierney, who claimed four first-place finishes for the host Marauders, including a pair of relay wins.
