In the midst of this global pandemic, saxophonist Jared Thompson has made sure to look out for his own well-being. “I’d say since December, I’ve written a tune here or there, and I’m working on another commission right now,” Thompson says. “But I’m just allowing myself grace. It just differs by the day or the week or the month. You can’t bat 1000 all the time. Sometimes you just need to ride the bench and take a breather.” As part of last year’s virtual Indy Jazz Fest, Thompson and his band, Premium Blend, put together a docu-concert called 38th and Postmodernism, pairing a live performance of songs with interviews reflecting on the city of Indianapolis.
