NEW YORK, December 16, 2020 BigID, a leader in data discovery and intelligence for privacy, protection and perspective, today announced a $70M million series D financing, bringing the valuation to over $1 Billion. The new investment is the third in a little over a year and follows BigID being named to the 2020 Forbes Cloud 100. The transaction comprised both primary and secondary shares.
The latest investment was led by Salesforce Ventures and Tiger Global and joined by Glynn Capital, with participation from existing investors Bessemer Venture Partners, Scale Venture Partners, and Boldstart Ventures. BigID launched in 2016, as Europe was completing its General Data Protection Regulation law known as GDPR. The law set strict standards for how and when corporations can collect and store customer data, as well as fines for companies that don t comply.
California soon followed suit with the similar California Consumer Privacy Act, which took effect at the start of this year. About 130 different regulations among countries and states govern how consumer data is collected and stored, Sirota said.

BigID has been on the investment fast track, raising $94 million over three rounds that started in January 2018. Today, that investment train kept rolling as the company announced a $70 million Series D on a valuation of $1 billion.
Salesforce Ventures and Tiger Global co-led the round with participation Glynn Capital and existing investors Bessemer Venture Partners, Scale Venture Partners and Boldstart Ventures. The company has raised almost $165 million in just over two years.
BigID is attracting this kind of investment by building a security and privacy platform. When I first spoke to CEO and co-founder Dimitri Sirota in 2018, he was developing a data discovery product aimed at helping companies coping with GDPR find the most sensitive data, but since then the startup has greatly expanded the vision and the mission.
