Funding for Tipp heritage projects

Tipp FM Text 083 311 3311 €200,000 has been allocated for conservation works at five local heritage projects. A total of three million Euro in funding has been handed out under the Historic Structures Fund by the Department of Heritage. Grants of €50,000 have been allocated to Tipperary County Council for works at the Courthouse in Tipp Town and O’Shea’s on Burke Street, Fethard. €50,000 has also been given to Offaly County Council for works at Emmell Castle just outside Cloughjordan. Under a separate ‘Shopfront stream’ of funding, €40,000 is being allocated for conservation at DW Parke’s on Gladstone Street, Clonmel. €10,000 has been announced for works at a farm house at Peahill, Ballylooby under the ‘Vernacular stream’.

Imagine grabbing a beer from a local restaurant, walking with it in hand on the sidewalk downtown and stopping by some local shops, all while sipping away. That image could become reality if the Village creates a DORA, or designated outdoor refreshment area, in downtown Yellow Springs. Village Council briefly discussed the idea during the new business portion of its meeting on April 19. No legislation was considered or votes taken. In a DORA, those 21 and older can legally consume alcohol on public property. Retail establishments can also allow customers to bring in alcoholic beverages, but the drinks can’t be taken from one restaurant or bar to another.

CONTRIBUTED TIPP CITY Voters in Tipp City will decide May 4 whether to continue an income tax for capital improvements for another 10 years. The first 10 years was highlighted by projects such as a fire department ladder truck, expanding the fire/EMS station on West Main Street, downtown restrooms and numerous street update and paving projects, among others. The ballot request calls for continuation of a 0.25 percent income tax that expires this June 30 and another 0.25 percent income tax that expires Dec. 31, 2022. The 0.25 percent requests would be effective July 1, 2020, and Jan. 1, 2023, respectively.
