Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Friday, said Presidency’s statement showing solidarity Communications and Digital Economy Minister, Isa Pantami, is an indication of sympathy for acts of terrorism the country has witnessed in the past few years.
The party said Nigerians were traumatized that the Presidency could mount a hopeless defence and justification for the actions of Isa Pantami, “who had already confessed to supporting terrorist groups like Al-Qaeda and Taliban.”
In a statement signed by its spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan, the PDP said “it is instructive to note that this anti-people stance has heightened public anxiety that the Buhari Presidency is a haven for traitors who are providing support to acts of terrorist activities in our nation.

When the news of Communications and Digital Economy Minister, Dr. Isa Ali Pantami’s dalliance with terrorism and fundamentalist ideals first broke, it sounded too bad to be true; more like fake news on steroids. I had to wait on my fingers for confirmation or denunciation from source. However, Pantami himself has come out to apologize and confirm that most of the stories are indeed true. I’m now forced to put pen on paper to express my thoughts on this serious national issue with global implications.

Minister of Communication, Dr Isa Ali Pantami
While it can be legitimate to hold Pantami for views expressed nearly two decades ago, it is only fair to also consider more recent views like his debate with the Boko Haram leader, Muhammad Yusuf, and other lectures in the past few years in which he condemned extremism to the extent that he became a prime target of Boko Haram, as declared by its present leader, Abubakar Shekau.
