Huawei Funded ICT Competition Starts in Ethiopia The Sixth Global ICT Competition in Ethiopia, funded by Chinese technological giant Huawei, was launched yesterday, May 26, 2021. The competition is hoped to exhibit highly innovative ideas from a thousand student participants. Huawei will provide the winners of the competition an opportunity to take part in the Global Final 2022 competition in China, representing Ethiopia as a team, in addition to the awards they receive. Comprehensive theoretical understanding, hands-on practical ability, innovative technology application, and design capabilities, and business thinking are all factors in selecting the winners of the competition, Huawei stated. The winner will be selected via pure machine scoring as well as jury scoring for different tracks.

Ethiopia to Use IOHK Technology to Create ID, Recording Systems for Education Global blockchain research and development company IOHK has announced a partnership with the Ethiopian government, to implement a national, blockchain-based student and teacher ID and attainment recording system to digitally verify grades, remotely monitor school performance and boost education and employment nationwide. IOHK’s Atala PRISM identity solution will enable authorities to create  tamper-proof records of educational performance across 3,500 schools, 5 million students, and 750,000 teachers to pinpoint the locations and causes of educational under-achievement and allocate educational resources effectively. The aim is to provide all students with blockchain-verified digital qualifications to reduce fraudulent university and job applications, and increase social mobility by allowing employers to verify all applicants’ grades without third-party agencies. 

IOHK partners Ethiopia to store academic records on Cardano blockchain

IOHK has partnered with Ethiopia to create the world’s largest blockchain-based education management system on Cardano. The project will provide 5 million students with a secure blockchain ID and record system from primary to tertiary school. Blockchain development company IOHK has announced a groundbreaking new partnership with the Ethiopian Ministry of Education that will see all academic records in the country stored on the Cardano blockchain. Announcing the news today, the company revealed that the project will provide 5 million students with a secure blockchain-based ID and record system. This would make it the largest blockchain deployment in an educational management system in the world to date.

He also aims to build interoperable payment platforms, strengthen e-government applications, and ultimately enable e-commerce. As CNF reported, John O’Connor, Director of African Operations at IOG, announced the world’s largest deployment of blockchain in Ethiopia in early February. Since then, there have been some bureaucratic delays in the final signing of the government contract that will bring several million users onto the Cardano blockchain. However, after much back and forth, the minister in charge in Ethiopia signed the contract just over a week ago, Cardano creator Charles Hoskinson revealed in a tweet.
