Galway Bay fm newsroom –12,500 jobs and investment of €1.4bn in the West over the next 15 years – the projected impact of the AcademyWest expansion being launched at Galway Technology Centre this morning.
It aims to address capacity issues, and enable the centre to become an even greater focal point for the expanding tech cluster throughout Galway and the West of Ireland.
It’ll bring the total size of Galway Technology Centre to 72,000 square foot, and increase the number of floors at the facility from two, to four.
Galway Technology Centre, based at Mervue Business Park, was established in 1994 as a social enterprise in the wake of the closure of Digital Equipment Corporation.

Galway Tech Centre expansion to create jobs in the West

Plans have been unveiled for the expansion of Galway Technology Centre, a move which is expected to lead to the creation of thousands of jobs in the West over the coming years.
The office space for start-ups in Galway city was established 25 years ago, and so far has helped over 300 businesses to scale and grow.
The 2,000 square metre expansion, which is being significantly funded by Enterprise Ireland, will see the total floor area of Galway Technology Centre (GTC) extend to almost 7,000 square metres, with the number of floors in the facility growing from two to four.

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A planned expansion at Galway Technology Centre in the city will create hundreds of jobs over the next 10 years.
GTC says the “AcademyWest” project will also make it the largest innovation centre outside Dublin, and generate revenue of more than €500m across the west over the next decade.
Full details of the expansion will be revealed this Friday (apr 23) at a special event to mark it’s 25th anniversary.
Among those participating in the event are Tanaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Leo Varadkar.
