There was an Australian connection as shuttle stallion Almanzor celebrated his first winner from his first runner at Chantilly on Monday.
Faro de San Juan ($2.30 favourite) won the €27,000 (A$41,000) Prix du Soleil de Bretagne (1100m) featuring nine two-year-olds on debut. Trained locally by Francis-Henri Graffard, the colt was prominent throughout for Pierre Charles-Boudot in winning by half a length.
South Australian breeder Peter Katelanis owns 40 per cent of Faro de San Juan, who is one of 89 two-year-olds in Almanzor s first crop. I ve just been with friends over the long weekend in Kangaroo Island and I just said to them I didn t get to sleep until god knows what time last night, Katelanis said.
