Streamflow cfs on the Cimarron River, near Cimarron on Monday morning, was not measured due to ice. In accordance with the public health order, effective Dec. 3, N.M. state parks reopened to New Mexico residents for day-use only. Please check the state parks’ website for more information. Anglers reported limited open water to fish.
Clayton Lake is closed until March 2021.
Conchas Lake had no reports from anglers this week.

With below-freezing temperatures forecast this week, it won’t be long before the ice-fishing season gets into full swing here in Northern New Mexico.
Currently, none of the popular destinations for ice fishing are open as the ice is still considered unsafe for fishing.
New Mexico State Parks are open for day use only, usually between the hours of 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Only New Mexico residents may use the facilities. Masks must be worn and social distancing practiced.
Many people are surprised that there is ice fishing in New Mexico and that temperatures can plummet to well-below zero in many locations.
Catches of the week
Johnny Flores, of Las Cruces, caught his limit of rainbow trout at Bear Canyon Lake using nightcrawlers Nov. 23.
Lynda Trujillo, of Santa Fe, caught a 17-inch rainbow trout on the Chama River below Abiquiú Lake using green PowerBait on Dec. 5. Melvin Serrano, of El Guache, caught a 23-inch brown trout below Abiquiú Lake using a Panther Martin spinner Dec. 4.
Bryan Novotny, of Rio Rancho, caught a 5-pound 6-ounce, 20-inch largemouth bass at Conchas Lake using a Lucky Craft suspending jerk bait in 15-feet of water Dec. 6.
