Solano averages 82 new daily cases over 4-day holiday weekend

(Robinson Kuntz/Daily Republic) Solano averages 82 new daily cases over 4-day holiday weekend FAIRFIELD Solano County is starting to vaccinate residents who are 65 or older, with a priority toward those individuals with health concerns. Dr. Bela Matyas, the county public health officer, said the county and its partners have vaccinated about 50,000 individuals. Others have received vaccine shots at Travis Air Force Base, the prisons in Vacaville, through private state contracts with the hospitals and through state contracts with pharmacies – numbers not available to the Solano County Public Health Division.

Lynda Hancock Allen, 74, remembered for her servant s heart and words of encouragement

Lynda Hancock Allen Lynda Hancock Allen, 74, passed away Saturday, Jan. 23, 2021. She was born Aug. 22, 1946, to Emery Hancock and Pearl Hansley Creel. As a child, her sisters, Peggy Hood and Kathy Lackey, remember her sweet smile, happy disposition and making play out of everything she did. Their mother instilled in them a love for family, and they were always very close to each other. She is also remembered by them for being extremely loving and giving, having a fondness for the elderly, always making friends with them and helping in some way. Lynda attended Dixon High School, where she played basketball and met the love of her life, Stanley Allen. The high school sweethearts married after Lynda graduated high school on her birthday. The next year their daughter Susan was born followed by their daughter Sharon three years later, and they moved to Wilmington. Five years after that they welcomed their youngest daughter Shelly. Pam Thomas leaves legacy of service to children and Onslow County

Whether they worked with her, taught with her, volunteered with her or served with her, friends and colleagues of longtime educator and public servant Pam Thomas remembered one thing: her love for Onslow County. “Pam was a pillar of our community, a mentor and a leader,” Onslow County Board of Education member Ken Reddic said. Onslow County’s education community lost a great advocate with Thomas’ death and the community as a whole lost a great public servant, Reddic said. Thomas, who was admitted to the hospital in late November after being diagnosed with COVID-19, died early Sunday morning. Thomas worked as a teacher, coach and supervisor with Onslow County Schools for 34 years and after her retirement was elected to the Board of Education. She joined the school board in 2004 and served as chairman from 2010 until her final term, which ended this month.

Second COVID-19 cluster at Onslow County Schools is at Dixon High School

A second cluster of COVID-19 cases in one of Onslow County’s public schools has been announced by the school district. A cluster of six cases was confirmed at Dixon High School, Onslow County Schools announced Tuesday morning but did not indicate whether the cases involved staff or students. According to the news release, the Onslow County Health Department notified OCS and DHS administrators late Friday that a cluster had been identified. The health department also reported the information to the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services. NCDHHS defines a cluster as a minimum of 5 cases with symptom onset or initial positive test results within a 14-day period and a probable common linkage between cases.
