WHEN THE RACE WAS OVER, RICK SAID THE WORDS THAT BEGIN A LIFE OF CELEBRATION AND INSPIRATION. WHEN WE GOT HOME, RICK GOT HOME AND SAID WHEN I AM RUNNING, I DON’T FEEL LIKE I HAVE A HANDICAP ANYMORE. BOB: THAT IS ALL DICK HAD TO HEAR. FROM THEN ON, IT WAS AN UNDYING COMMITMENT TO HIS SON THAT LED TO THOUSANDS OF MILES BIKING, RUNNING AND SWIMMING. 32 BOSTON MARATHONS, THE IRONMAN TRIATHLON IN HAWAII, AND A BIKE AND RUN ACROSS AMERICA, NOTHING SHORT OF AMAZING. Dick Hoyt, longtime Boston Marathon runner who pushed son Rick for decades, dies at 80

Dick Hoyt, a longtime symbol of the Boston Marathon who ran the race with his son, Rick, for decades, has died. He was 80.
Hoyt, who had been battling health issues, died Wednesday, the Boston Athletic Association said. Hoyt and his son participated in their 32nd and final Marathon as a team in 2014. He was named grand marshal of the event in 2015.
âThe B.A.A. is tremendously saddened to learn of the passing of Boston Marathon icon Dick Hoyt,â a statement posted to the associationâs website said. âDick personified what it meant to a be a Boston Marathoner, showing determination, passion, and love every Patriotsâ Day for more than three decades.â

BOSTON Dick Hoyt, who inspired thousands of runners, fathers and disabled athletes by pushing his son, Rick, in a wheelchair in dozens of Boston Marathons and hundreds of other races, has died, a member of the family said Wednesday.
