Dick Monfort, whose family made its fortune in the cattle business, knows more about B.S. than anyone in baseball.
For more than two decades, Monfort has been peddling a particular kind to the fans of the Colorado Rockies, the team he owns and runs. It goes something like this: The Rockies, under the stewardship of Monfort, want to win.
The phrasing of the Colorado Rockies April 26 announcement about the exit of general manager/executive vice president Jeff Bridich the statement notes that the team and the GM mutually agreed that Bridich will step down from his role, effective immediately could not have been less satisfying. Long-suffering fans deserved something more along the lines of Bridich was frog-marched out of his office in shame or Bridich raced from the building screaming, as if he d just noticed that he was on a sinking ship and the last lifeboat was nearly filled with rats.
Sometimes when a team goes through a major move like this one, the players respond with a strong effort, to prove their resilience but not the Rockies. A few hours after the Bridich announcement, the squad took the diamond against the San Francisco Giants, to whom they promptly lost by the humiliating score of 12-0.

After 17 years with in the Rockies organization, including the last seven as general manager, Jeff Bridich has resigned his post with the Rockies. The announcement came as a bit of a surprise after Bridich traded away star third baseman Nolan Arenado earlier this offseason. No immediate successor was named but the club did announce that Greg Feasel has been promoted from Vice President and COO over the business side of the club to Team President, now in charge of baseball operations.
According to a press release from the team, Feasel and owner Dick Monfort will soon announce an interim GM to take Bridich’s place until the end of the season, at which point the club will hire someone in a more permanent role.
