Iâd been playing the piano since I was five, and by the time I was 15 I was memorising Rachmaninov concertos. But Barbara Allen, recorded by Jo Stafford, turned me towards the music that was becoming the rebirth of folk music in the US. I knew Staffordâs voice very well â her My Funny Valentine was one of our favourites. She was such a magnificent singer, and her version of Barbara Allen was just stunning. That and The Gypsy Rover were songs that plunged me into a new life. I often say, though, that I was born knowing the lyrics to Danny Boy because my father sang all kinds of things â I would have heard that in the womb.

Hogeboom Looks Back on 46 Years Helping Shape California Insurance Landscape
Robert W. Hogeboom has quietly been in the background of making and forming insurance laws and regulations for decades – and he’s seen a lot change in California’s insurance landscape in all of that time.
During his 46-year-long legal career, he was on the frontlines of hammering out issues and regulations with the California Department of Insurance.
Hogeboom devoted his practice to insurance regulatory, legislative and administrative matters before the CDI. He handled more than 50 hearings involving CDI enforcement actions against insurers and producers, including rate hearings, market conduct actions and disciplinary proceedings.

She’s been married three times
White’s third marriage was the charm: She and game-show host Allen Ludden were married from 1963 until his death in 1981. Earlier marriages were to a U.S. Army pilot, Dick Barker, whom she was engaged to for most of World War II. They divorced inside a year, after they were wed in 1945. She also spent a couple of years, from 1947 to 1949, as Mrs. Lane Allen, but the actor wanted her to give up her career. Yeah, that didn’t happen.
