New Bedford Man Sentenced for Dating Website Robbery Scheme
FALL RIVER A New Bedford man who worked with his girlfriend to rob men she met through dating websites has been sentenced to serve up to four years in state prison.
Luis Santos, 22, pleaded guilty in Fall River Superior Court to indictments charging him with three counts of armed robbery, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced.
According to the D.A.’s Office, Santos and his 23-year-old girlfriend Kerstyn Gross, set up a scheme in which they posted her photo and created profiles on various dating websites such as Meet Me and Plenty of Fish. The indictments charge that on at least three separate occasions, Santos would lie in wait while Gross met with the men, and then he would rob them at knifepoint.

New Bedford Gun Violence Must Be Confronted [OPINION]
Two shooting incidents in New Bedford broke the early morning still on Saturday, further shattering the myth that violent crime is under control here. The shootings occurred as the ongoing feud between the news media and the secretive Mitchell Administration has reached a fever pitch over the administration s refusal to make information about crime available to the public in a timely manner.
Police Chief Joseph Cordeiro defended his decision not to notify the public that a gunman had fired eight rounds at a police officer s home. Unfortunately, Cordeiro also failed to immediately inform most police officers in New Bedford and the surrounding communities, a decision that placed their lives in jeopardy. For days, Mayor Jon Mitchell s administration defended Cordeiro s actions even after it became clear that Cordeiro had misrepresented the truth.
When the calendar turned to 2020, chances are unless you were an epidemiologist you probably had no knowledge of COVID-19.
By mid March, this coronavirus disease would completely upend life as we know it in Macomb County and around the world.
Recently, Macomb Daily writers and editors held a meeting (virtually, of course) to sort out the top 10 news stories of 2020. Not surprisingly, the onset of COVID-19 and all that came with it was voted no. 1.

It was a pretty obvious choice in a year that came with lots of important news, including the disgraced resignation of a longtime Macomb County official, racial unrest, political strife in the countyâs largest city and an election that stamped Macomb as a solidly red county with Republicans seizing control of county government.
