Want to know how many Blacks, Asians or Latinos are employed by New Jersey’s police forces? The answer is no one knows   a year after a new law requiring the state to provide such information went on the books.  Not only does the state not have the information although officials are promising it will be ready by early 2022 but a public records request made by the USA TODAY Network New Jersey to the state s  540 police departments generated only 53 replies.  “If you’re not measuring what you’re doing, how are you ever going to improve?” said Jiles Ship, president of the New Jersey chapter of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives. “We have to really develop a matrix to measure what we’re doing.”

Hackensack Police Arrest Philly Duo on Gun and Drug Charges

April 28, 2021 at 2:45 AM HACKENSACK, NJ - Hackensack Police arrested a man and woman from Philadelphia on gun and drug charges Monday evening. Darinel Perez-Burgos and Jelayna Sevilla, both from Philadelphia, PA, were arrested for possessing a stolen handgun and drugs on Monday, April 26 around 7:30 p.m.  Narcotics detectives Kley Peralta and Reuven Lyak stopped a 2015 Acura sedan driven by Perez-Burgos at the intersection of River Street and Kansas Street for an equipment violation, according to Detective Captain Darrin DeWitt. Perez-Burgos had a suspended driver s license and said he did not know who owned the car. The passenger provided a suspended Delaware driver s license and said she has only known Perez-Burgos for a couple of months.

Read / Add Comments A worker survived a fall of nearly five stories from an apartment building under construction in Hackensack on Wednesday, authorities said. The 45-year-old framer from Newark was intubated in critical but stable condition at Hackensack University Hospital following the mishap on Kinderkamack Road near westbound Route 4 shortly before 1 p.m., they said. The victim “misstepped and fell approximately 50 feet onto a concrete slab,” Detective Capt. Darrin DeWitt said. “He was conscious but bleeding from his head and appeared to have injuries throughout his body,” DeWitt said. City police, firefighters and paramedics responded. OSHA was notified. The accident occurred two days after a worker from Clifton was seriously injured in a 30-foot fall at a Hackensack plant.
