Enmore Theatre could become the first venue in Sydney to benefit from new laws intended to promote live music over poker machines and make it harder to shut down venues over noise complaints.
Inner West Council is due to consider a proposal that, if adopted, would designate the Enmore as a special entertainment precinct just as regulatory changes that received bipartisan support in State Parliament take effect.
The new laws aim to strike a more equitable balance between protecting residents from excessive noise and protecting venues from vexatious noise complaints.
