Man who admitted stealing $100K from 73-year-old blind woman headed to prison

Man who admitted stealing $100K from 73-year-old blind woman headed to prison Updated Dec 18, 2020; A man who admitted befriending a 73-year-old blind Toms River woman and stealing over $100,000 from her was sentenced Friday to seven years in state prison, authorities said. Tyler Dietlmeier, 28, of Toms River, pleaded guilty on Oct. 23 to theft by deception and criminal coercion and received seven and four-year state prison sentences, respectively, for each crime, according to a statement from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office. The sentences will run concurrently. On Jan. 27, the Toms River Police were called to a home for a report of fraudulent activity that had occurred there and an investigation revealed that Dietlmeier had become friendly with the woman, under false pretenses, knowing that she was legally blind and lived alone, the office said.
