Facebook Share Alabama House of Representative spokesman Clay Redden said three representatives received positive COVID-19 test results this week. House Speaker Mac McCutcheon, R-Monrovia, said the three were Reps. Wes Allen, R-Troy; Tommy Hanes, R-Bryant; and Ritchie Whorton, R-Owens Cross Roads. McCutcheon said they got sick over the weekend and did not come to the State House today. Lawmakers and legislative staff have been receiving regular COVID-19 tests since the session began last month. McCutcheon said no representatives tested positive at the State House today.

A House committee on Wednesday approved a bill that would attempt to nullify all federal gun laws in Alabama and ban state law enforcement from enforcing them. The House Public Safety and Homeland Security approved the bill, sponsored by Rep. Tommy Hanes, R-Bryant, on a voice vote. The measure is one of several attempts by Republican legislators around the country to block attempts at gun control by the Democratic-controlled Congress. But it goes further than most by trying to stop the enforcement of current federal gun laws, including those  regulating automatic weapons.
