The Fighting Hawks (5-1) scored on its first four possessions of the game while surrendering just 185 total yards to capture their first victory in the FCS playoffs in three tries and move to 11-1 inside the Alerus Center during postseason play.

Making their first NCAA appearance since 1990, Missouri State fell behind 27-3 at the intermission, but did not allow an offensive touchdown in the second half until the 2:17 mark of the fourth quarter with the game already in hand. The Fighting Hawks added a pair of unconventional scores on a blocked punt and an interception return in the third that put things out of reach.

9 UND players make all-MVFC team

By Pat Sweeney Apr 22, 2021 3:58 PM After capturing its 27th conference crown and becoming the first team in the Missouri Valley Football Conference to do so in its first year in the league, nine North Dakota student-athletes were named to the conference’s all-league teams on Thursday. The voting was conducted by the MVFC and featured coaches, sports information directors and select media from each school.   The Fighting Hawks, who played as an FCS Independent during the 2018 and 2019 seasons, saw two players earn All-MVFC First Team selections for the first time in their careers.   Running back Otis Weah led the conference in nearly every rushing category, pacing the league in yards per game (114.0), yards per carry (7.50) and total touchdowns (7). The redshirt sophomore found pay dirt in every game this season, including a pair of two-score games in the wins over South Dakota State and South Dakota.
