New video shows officers “ambushed” Andrew Brown Jr.
Attorneys for the family of Andrew Brown Jr. said Tuesday additional footage from the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office showed Brown was “ambushed” by deputies. They described the encounter as a “massacre” and said the video is evidence that merits criminal charges against the deputies.
Officials showed the family and their attorneys six videos that totaled about 20 minutes, including dashboard footage and video from deputies’ body cameras. At a news conference, Brown’s family said it was clear he had never posed a threat to the officers that killed him.

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. Reverend Javan Leach is pastor at Mt. Lebanon AME Zion Church. He’s been preaching for 13 years.
His church is located about a mile from where Andrew Brown Jr. was killed on April 21.
During the city’s unrest, Leach has been focused on listening to the community. He says he has marched with protesters to listen to their message.
“Most of the people in our community are just numb… because this is a within itself, and it’s all over and it’s resurfaced,” said Leach when speaking about colorism.

The family of Andrew Brown Jr., who was fatally shot in his car by sheriff’s deputies in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, have finally seen the footage of the killing. They are calling Brown’s death unequivocally unjustified.
Although the footage will not be released to the public, according to USA Today, the body cam footage was shown to the family by the Pasquotank County Sheriff s Office after a court order.
Bakari Sellers, one of the family s attorneys, said during a press conference after viewing the footage, “What we saw on that video was an unjustified killing. What we saw on that video is something that we believe also denotes further investigation and does have some criminal liability.
The family of Andrew Brown Jr., a Black man who was killed by deputies in North Carolina, was shown additional footage of the shooting that they say proves the killing was unjustified.
“We did not see any actions on Mr. Brown‘s part where he made contact with them or tried to go in their direction,” Lynch told reporters. “In fact, he did just the opposite. While there was a group of law enforcement that were in front of him, he went the opposite direction.”
Lynch, who described the shooting as “unconstitutional” and “unjustified,” said body camera footage of the shooting’s aftermath shows that deputies found no weapons on Brown.
“My father did not deserve to die at all,” his son Jha’rod Ferebee told reporters after watching the footage. “He did not deserve to get killed in any way, shape or form. He did not pose any threat at all.”
