(WBTV) - A suspect was airlifted to the hospital after a deputy-involved shooting in York County Friday afternoon. The incident happened on East Highway 324 in Rock Hill, South Carolina around 2:15 p.m. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division says shots were fired during a confrontation between a man and deputies from the York County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies were responding to a call to conduct a wellness check on the individual when the shooting took place.

View Comments A Belton police officer has been arrested and charged after a coworker reported being inappropriately touched, according to the Belton police chief and the State Law Enforcement Division. Derrall Blake Foster, III, 33, is charged with second degree assault and battery and misconduct in office, according to warrants. In late 2020,  Belton Police Chief Robert Young said in an emailed statement that he asked SLED to investigate a complaint made by a co-worker against Foster. Between Oct. 1, 2019 and July 31, 2020, Foster is charged with touching the victim numerous times and sending inappropriate text messages to her, according to an arrest warrant.

South Carolina s top law enforcement agency has launched an investigation into fired State Accident Fund director Amy Cofield and her involvement in her husband landing a $600,000 work contract with her agency, a department spokesman confirmed. Cofield was fired by Gov. Henry McMaster in February after he became aware of the contract. Asked to probe the contract and Cofield s involvement, the state inspector general reported in April that Cofield tainted the process. The inspector general said Cofield s involvement created a conflict of interest, both organizational and personal.
