Kick off a conversation about bygone restaurants in Mobile and you’ll hear about some COVID casualties. But it’s likely to go far deeper than that.
A longer look back finds some legendary places with stories that grew with Mobile after (or even through) its World War II boom. Some are intertwined with the decline and slow rise of Downtown. There is, as one would expect, a heck of a lot of seafood on the menu. There’s also a conspicuous Greek influence.

Mobile’s Friendly Sons of St. Patrick won’t march on Wednesday, though they will observe tradition in less public ways.
“Yes, unfortunately it’s true,” said Clay Bedford, president of the organization. Bedford said the group had sensed the city might not be keen on issuing a parade permit, but even if it had gotten one, the group’s board still had concerns about the wellbeing of its membership.
