When the shortened season began with no pre-season, it was expected that the first handful of games would not appear the same for each team. However, in the case of the Anaheim Ducks, things seem like they re somewhat in a mid-season form which pretty much means that we’d see the usual sight of goaltender John Gibson bailing his team out in close one-goal games.
Tuesday night in Glendale was no exception, as Anaheim took on the Arizona Coyotes.
In a game that marked debuts for Ducks defender Ben Hutton and forward Vinni Lettieri, Gibson led the team to a 1-0 shutout, with the lone goal coming at 10:59 in the first period. Forward Danton Heinen scored low far side after a wonderful forechecking effort, stripping the puck away from the stick of Drake Caggiula.
Scoring chances favored the Coyotes Tuesday night, but the final score did not.
The Coyotes out-shot the Anaheim Ducks 31-24 and recorded 27 scoring chances to the Ducks 18. They could not capitalize. As a result, Arizona suffered its second straight 1-0 loss at Gila River Arena. We had lots of chances, Lawson Crouse said. (We had) lots of opportunities. We ve just got to get to the net and bang in a dirty one. (Gibson) was playing a good game, he was seeing pucks. The easy answer (for us) would be to get more traffic in front.
Crouse came close to scoring late in the first period but hit the post for the second time in as many games.

WASHINGTON (AP) After killing off a five-minute penalty in the third period against an opponent that had gone to overtime the last four games, the New York Islanders thought they’d also get there against the Washington Capitals and pick up at least a point.
But then Justin Schultz scored with 26.4 seconds left to give the Capitals an emotional 3-2 victory Tuesday night after losing two more key players to injury. Finishing the game without centers Nicklas Backstrom and Lars Eller and missing five other prominent players, Washington matched a franchise best with points in the first seven games of the season.
