With Thursday’s override of Governor Larry Hogan’s veto of a bill requiring background checks on all transfers of long guns in the state, Maryland Democrats have revealed themselves to be far more interested in cracking down on legal gun owners than in addressing the sky-high homicide rate in Baltimore.
I had the chance to speak with Maryland Del. Dan Cox while I was filling on WMAL’s morning show on Friday, and the Republican lawmaker was absolutely incensed by the new measure and its penalties, especially when they’re compared to the existing law on the books about stolen firearms.

The Maryland House of Delegates overrode the governor s veto of the controversial plan to fund the state s schools.
Delegates voted 95-37 on Monday afternoon to override the veto.
Advocates of the Blueprint for Maryland s Future Education Plan argue the coronavirus pandemic exposed and widened existing disparities in education, say it s now more important than ever to implement the reforms. It s exciting to know it s going to start providing an adequate and equitable educations for our students, Maryland State Education Association President Cheryl Bost said.
Debate followed party lines with Democrats supporting the reform measures. The blueprint has been praised by business executives, government officials and editorial boards and other states who want to mimic ours, said Delegate Alonzo Washington, D-Montgomery County.
