City Councilor Elected 1st Black Mayor Of Edmond

By: Anjelicia Bruton EDMOND, Okla. - A familiar face around Edmond is taking on a new title as mayor. City Councilor Darrell Davis defeated Nathan Walters with over 60% of the votes. He will be the first African American to hold the position. After serving as city councilor for about 10 years, Davis will be taking on a new venture. Davis is a man of many hats and titles. He has dedicated decades to serving the people of Edmond as a city councilman, a member of the capital improvement program and a member of the parks and recreation board. He said one of his biggest accomplishments was investing in the beautification of Edmond with parks and trails. Davis said as the first Black mayor he hopes this inspires others to go after anything they want in life.
