CORONADO (KUSI) – Throughout San Diego, businesses are being forced to get creative to attract customers and remain open.
Governor Gavin Newsom’s stringent regulations have forced many businesses to permanently close, while the ones that have managed to remain open are still struggling to survive.
In Coronado, Mayor Richard Bailey wants to reopen in a safe manner, and has some ideas to do just that. Bailey explained, “the science behind a lot of these closures just simply isn’t substantiated.”
KUSI’s Dan Plante spoke with Richard Bailey about these ideas live on Good Evening San Diego.
Bailey has reached out to Governor Newsom multiple times, but has yet to hear back.
EL CAJON (KUSI) – More than 350 businesses in San Diego County are threatening legal action against any government agency for the enforcement of health orders, and now are engaged in what is being called a constitutionally protected, peaceful protest. KUSI’s Dan Plante spoke with the only Mayor in San Diego County, El Cajon Mayor Bill Wells, that publicly said.
IMPERIAL BEACH (KUSI) – Wednesday is the first day Mike Hess Brewing Company will be open for dining services in defiance of Governor Gavin Newsom’s regional stay-at-home order. Mike Hess Brewing has joined forced with over two hundred other local businesses, being represented by Attorney Michael Curran, who are remaining open as part of a peaceful protest against Newsom’s order.
IMPERIAL BEACH (KUSI) – With the coronavirus vaccines available in the United States, many believed the vaccination process would have been handled a lot faster.
Now many people, elected officials and California residents, are criticizing the state government’s lack of overall planning to get vaccines administered.
Governor Gavin Newsom himself said the pace is, “not good enough.”
The state is trying to execute the massive immunization campaign “with a sense of urgency that is required of this moment and the urgency that people demand,” but so far only about 1% of California’s 40 million residents have been vaccinated, the Democratic governor said.
