As vaccine demand drops, specialists go door-to-door to educate people on the shot, register them

HAMPTON, Va. You might get a special visitor at your door, soon: a COVID-19 vaccine outreach specialist.
Workers are canvassing neighborhoods on the peninsula, knocking on doors, passing out fliers and registering people for the shot.
Gaylene Kanoyton oversees this outreach. She said the goal is to educate people about the vaccine, answer questions and get people signed up for their spot in line.

HERTFORD, N.C. Dozens of people paid their last respects to Andrew Brown Junior, this morning.
Eleven days after Pasquotank County sheriff’s deputies shot and killed Brown, Horton’s Funeral Home and Cremations held a public viewing.
“He was like a friend to me, Edenton resident Edwin Newby said as he left the funeral home.
Friends and strangers alike said they came as a show of support for Brown and the loved ones he leaves behind.
Hertford resident Kenyatta Swain said he also knew Brown. Brown s mother attends his church.
“Always pleasant, willing to help anyone. Just a good guy, always for the community, Swain said. “Such a tragedy in the area. And it hurts to be right here at home, really hurts. For me to be African-American, as well - could have been me.

Portsmouth s Grove Church is behind the massive gas giveaway at Portsmouth’s Exxon Tiger Mart.
Senior Pastor Dr. Melvin Marriner explained it succinctly, “Today is we pay, you pump.”
Dwain Blake was one of the hundreds of drivers waiting to fill their tanks.
“Free gas! Ain’t nothing like free gas, Blake said. ”I’m definitely going to wait for this here. If it takes all day, I’ll be here.”
And it’s a long wait. Scores of cars, trucks and SUVs wrapped around the block.

Nearly 100 family members and close friends of Jimmie Allen gathered at Irish Eyes in Lewes April 22 to celebrate his Academy of Country Music New Male Artist of the Year Award. The surprise party was arranged by lifelong friend and neighbor Monica Mandujano, whose brother Amado was a close friend of Allen’s growing up on Mercury Lane in Milton.
