JONESBORO — Around 5 a.m. Wednesday, Earl Long could be seen pushing his old shopping cart up Main Street. The cart is covered in cardboard signs stating, “NEED DONATIONS, ANYTHING WILL HELP, NOT HOMELESS.” Long, 54, of Jonesboro, just found a place on Gee Street after spending many weeks on the street with his 32-year-old autistic wife, Stephanie. “I am from Wisconsin,” Long said. “I got stuck here when I got pulled over after putting flowers on my dad’s grave. I was here 30 minutes when I got pulled over and spent two days in jail. They impounded my car.” Long said his wife spent several days walking the street before being taken in by a stranger. When he was finally released from jail, he said he was able to locate his wife by calling her phone.
