GlobalFoundries moves headquarters from Silicon Valley to Malta

MALTA, N.Y. — GlobalFoundries is moving its headquarters from Silicon Valley to Saratoga County, the company announced Monday, as it positions itself for growth, strengthens partnerships with customers and recruits new talent. CEO Tom Caulfield, along with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer shared the news at a press conference on Monday at Fab 8, the company’s most advanced semiconductor manufacturing facility. “We are enhancing our presence in upstate New York, and we are officially, as of today, relocating our headquarters to Saratoga County,” Caulfield said on Monday, noting that the move comes at Schumer’s urging, and with his support.

Doug's Blog: Cuomo's Announcements Leave Us Waiting For More Guidance

Apr 15, 2021 Photo: Getty Images “With the Governor the announcements are never what we think… they’re arbitrary numbers and the details of what it means is not known for days or weeks.” - Saratoga County Chamber President Todd Shimkus in The Daily Gazette. Truer words were never spoken. The good news that the Governor announced on Wednesday is that New York’s racetracks can open at 20% capacity. The bad news is, no one knows what that means. In the case of the Saratoga racetrack, is that 20% based on seating capacity or the venue’s full capacity (5 times higher than the seating capacity)? And whatever the 20% number is, the Gov said that every person in that group will need to provide either a proof of vaccination or a recent negative COVID test. Well if that’s so, then why is the number at 20%? Why not 30%, 40%, 50%? Each increase would mean a significant boost to a community that relies heavily on the dollars connected to those figures. Also, are social

Gov. Cuomo Announces New Capacity Limits For Horse Racing

4:44 The Belmont Park horse racing meet begins next week and, after a year without fans in the stands, some spectators will be allowed in. WAMC’s Southern Adirondack Bureau Chief Lucas Willard has reaction from Saratoga Springs, where officials are hopeful for a more normal summer season. Governor Andrew Cuomo made the announcement during a press call Wednesday. “Effective next Friday, April 23, spectators will be allowed at auto and horse races at 20 percent capacity for outdoor events, and that will be in line with our guidance for other professional sports events. The health and safety protocols that apply to sports events – face masks, social distancing, proof of completed immunization or recent negative test – will apply here, also.”
