The bill, which received a hearing by a Senate education panel, comes after Republican lawmakers have publicly questioned association leaders this year about the nonprofit s authority and assets of nearly $42 million as of June 2020. It s the wealthiest group of its kind in the country, according to legislative data. Senators say that contrasts with schools struggling to raise money for uniforms and equipment and the fines they can pay the association for eligibility violations.

Todd Johnson, consulting city planner, presented the staff report recommending council approve the shoreline substantial development permit with conditions. The Port of Kalama plans to build a $3.5 million cruise ship dock as part of an agreement with American Cruise Lines. It will be constructed on the riverfront near Marine Park, with work set to start in September and continue through spring 2022.

The United States Air Force is sending more than two dozen F-22 stealth fighters to an exercise in the western Pacific this month, an unusually large deployment of the powerful jets that analysts say sends a strong message to a possible adversary in China.
