New COVID-19 lab promises quicker test turnaround for WNC

A new laboratory unveiled Dec. 10 in Arden is promising faster turnaround times for Western North Carolina s COVID-19 tests and dedicating 10% of its capacity to free tests for rural and underserved communities. Sanesco International and Dogwood Health Trust unveiled the new CommunityLab at Sanesco s headquarters on Trident Drive, the result of their partnership and a $3.5 million loan that Dogwood helped facilitate for the company.  The diagnostic lab will receive tests from around Western North Carolina to support the COVID-19 demand in the region, according to an announcement.  CommunityLab will also operate a mobile testing unit that will provide testing and same-day results open to anyone, regardless of symptoms. 

WNC Gets COVID Vaccine And Testing Support

Three WNC hospitals are on the list to receive the first COVID-19 vaccine shipments.  Earlier this week, North Carolina health officials announced that Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville would be among the 11 “early ship sites” that would hold the vaccine in cold storage during the approval process, which is expected to continue this weekend with the meeting of the Center for Disease Control’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices.   On Thursday, an expanded “first shipment” list was released that includes Mission Health and Haywood Regional Medical Center,  with anticipated vaccine arrival during the week of December 14. According to a spread sheet released by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, both Pardee and Haywood Regional  will receive 975 initial doses and Mission will receive 2,925.
