DHAKA, April 14, 2021 (BSS) – The Bengalese across the country today celebrated this year’s Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bangla New Year in different mode, basically using virtual media and digital devices by staying at homes due to coronavirus scare.
Pahela Baisaikh, one of the largest universal festivals of the nation was welcomed by the people of all strata staying at homes as the government urged all citizens to do so like previous year (2020) in the wake of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.
Pahela Baishakh is one of the most colourful festivals through which the Bangalis bid farewell to the old year and welcome the New Year, but this year all programmes were cancelled due to Covid-19 outbreak that has already claimed a lot of valuable lives across the globe including Bangladesh.
Ex-DUCSU GS Morshed Ali passes away

DHAKA, April 7, 2021 (BSS) – Former Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) General Secretary and control commission member of Communist Party of Bangladesh Bir Muktijoddha Morshed Ali passed away at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital here this morning.
He was 78.
Morshed Ali left behind his wife, a daughter and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death.
Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Morshed Ali.
In a condolence message, he prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

After repeated requests, the authorities had decided to take their exams but they are now saying that they will postpone the examinations.

Mohammad Lincoln, a fourth-year student of Dhaka College, said he has only one examination left and now the DU authorities are considering postponing the examinations. Halls are closed following the pandemic and we were participating in the examination staying at messes. If the examinations are postponed, we have to stay at the messes at our own cost for the next three months, he said.
Bangladesh pays tributes to language movement martyrs
Dhaka, Feb 21 (UNI) The supreme sacrifice of the language heroes on this day 69 years back is being remembered as people are paying glowing tributes to them at the altar of the Central Shaheed Minar since midnight while maintaining health guidelines.
High ranking dignitaries ranging from Military secretaries to the President and the Prime Minister got wreaths placed on their behalf at the Central Shaheed Minar at one minute past zero hours today.
The immortal song on Amar Ekushey–“Amar Bhaiyer Rakte Rangano Ekushey February”- was playing on the loudspeaker on the occasion.

The nation observed Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day on Sunday, paying glowing tribute to the martyrs of the historic Language Movement of 1952.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina led the nation in paying homage to the valiant sons of the soil who sacrificed their lives to establish Bangla as state language of then Pakistan.
On behalf of the President and the Prime Minister, President’s military secretary Major General SM Salahuddin Islam and Prime Minister’s military secretary Major General Naquib Ahmed Chowdhury placed wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital at zero hours.
