SABATTUS, Maine If you drove by the Henshaw home in Sabattus Saturday morning, it would be easy to guess a celebration was taking place. Friends and family of 90-year-old Korean War veteran Bill Henshaw gathered for a once-a-lifetime moment.
Henshaw left Taunton High School in Massachusetts in the fall of 1949 to serve his country. While his classmates would go on to graduate, Henshaw never graduated.
That changed on Saturday, thanks to a Massachusetts state law that allows veterans like Henshaw, who left school to fight in wars, to receive an honorary diploma.

After school lets out Taunton Public Schools steps in to ensure no child in need goes without food this summer, as it prepares to launch its remote meal service.
Starting July 2 and running through Aug. 6, the district will be handing out meals to local families at four locations in the city.
Meals will be distributed weekly on Fridays, and parents can pick up five breakfasts and five lunches for any child 18 years and younger, no need to be a city resident. There is no ID required at pickup.
Pickup times and places are as follows: Taunton High School from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

TAUNTON Dozens of Hopewell Park neighbors want the city’s End of Summer fireworks moved from their neighborhood or canceled.
Leading the effort is Alex Kendzieski of Hopewell Street. For years, he’s warned that firework debris could spark blazes and the noise panics pets, wildlife and residents with medical conditions.
His complaints gained some traction at Tuesday’s City Council meeting, including from Councilor Deborah Carr.
“I don’t want to see any animals get hurt. I get constant calls about dogs being scared to death,” said Carr, saying the park isn’t an ideal location.
“If we can’t find an appropriate place, maybe we shouldn’t do it.”

DIGHTON On Oct. 14 Virginia Silvia will turn 99.
But now at age 98, she s already the oldest person living in Dighton. So on June 28 her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and the town got a head start on wishing her a happy birthday with a special award, the Boston Post Cane.
Silvia, who still lives in her own home, seemed unfazed by the accolades, which included a certificate of recognition from the selectmen and her name s inclusion on the town s Post Cane recipients plaque.
I thank the man up there, she said, pointing her own cane upward when asked the secret of her longevity.
