Police Say They Interviewed an Oregon Man in a 1999 Cold Case Murder Then He Killed Again Aaron Keller

A Portland, Ore. man has been indicted on charges that he killed a man several months after police interviewed him in the cold case killing of a previous victim who died nearly two decades earlier.
Christopher Lovrien, now 53, is now charged in both killings. He was initially indicted in April 2020 in the alleged murder of
Mark Dribin, then 42. He was reindicted of killing Dribin and newly indicted of killing
Kenneth Griffin this week.
Lovrien and his two alleged victims were apparently strangers with “no known connection” to the defendant, according to a press release from the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office.

Top prosecutors across Oregon took aim at four state legislative proposals in a new report suggesting the bills effect on criminal sentencing would be dramatic and dangerous if passed.
The Oregon District Attorneys Association argues that Measure 11, the voter-approved law generally requiring mandatory minimum sentences and no time off for good behavior for a number of serious offenses, has strong public support and addresses conduct, not color. I support responsible reforms, said Washington County DA Kevin Barton. However, repealing Measure 11 will not bring more justice to victims, make Oregonians safer or sentencing more equitable.
Clackamas County District Attorney John Wentworth, who was elected without opposition to the post last year, agreed. I think it s working as intended, he said of Measure 11. Regarding the proposals in Salem, he said they re designed to benefit the criminal defense and take power away from prosecutors, making it more difficult to prove our cases and lessen sentences once we do.
Multnomah County D.A. Mike Schmidt is the lone reformer, at least in the metro area.
In a statement on Jan. 8, Schmidt, Wasco County District Attorney Matt Ellis and Deschutes County District Attorney John Hummel signed on to lawmakers reform efforts.
