MCKINNEY, Texas More than a year ago, the McKinney Economic Development Corporation bet that startups and other innovation-focused companies would be vital to continuing to grow the northern Dallas-Fort Worth suburb.
Last January, the EDC launched its Innovation Fund, which has attracted more than a dozen companies to the city. Entering its second year, the EDC sees even more interest from the startup community as it looks to position McKinney as a future tech hub.

DALLAS The developer of a proposed seven-story apartment complex near White Rock Lake is going back to the drawing board after its initial rezoning request was rejected Thursday evening.
Boca Raton, Florida-based Mill Creek Residential was hoping to expand the density and height allowed on a nearly 4-acre site in East Dallas at the intersection of Gaston Avenue, Garland Road and Grand Avenue. Formerly home of The Lot, a restaurant and beer garden that closed last year due to the pandemic, Mill Creek wants to build The Trailhead, a 305-unit apartment complex that would include ground

“If you are adding a bucket of new buyers to the area, that’s going to increase demand, and supply isn’t going to be impacted so that would have an effect on pricing. However, there is already so much demand, there’s probably not going to be that much of a difference in the grand scheme of things because there are already so many buyers out there. It’s a drop in the bucket, if you will, compared to the overall demand. I wouldn’t say that (corporate relos) in and of itself is having a big impact on pricing specifically. If the existing demand weren’t so strong I think it would have more of an impact.”
The project ran into delays amid the pandemic in 2020.

DALLAS AT&T s downtown Dallas redevelopment project is getting closer to a full opening.
The effort was held back by the challenges of the pandemic last year, even as some elements have been up and running. The Dallas-based telecommunications company’s project at its headquarters includes an updated campus-like feel and new restaurants.
“The AT&T Discovery District brings our brand to life through technology, culture and entertainment,” a spokesperson said in an emailed statement. “While some elements are already open to the public, we hope that the full experience we’ve created will be completely open later this summer.”
