Pandemics are no longer just something today’s students learn about in history or science class.
The COVID-19 public health crisis has upended normalcy around the world and thrown a monkey wrench into the routines and plans of high school students. Winners of Superintendent’s Awards typically have the recognition commemorated with a banquet dinner, but large gatherings are a no-no until the novel coronavirus is under control. Instead, the seniors selected for 2020 received their certificates from the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents in different, less ceremonial settings.

Turners Falls High School alum Cassidhe Wozniak was named the Becker College Athlete of the Week last week after a two-point performance on the ice for the Hawks Saturday against Southern Maine.
The sophomore scored a goal and added an assist in the 5-3 loss. Her goal came in the third period on a breakaway, batting a stretch pass out of the air before skating past the Southern Maine defense and beating the Husky goalie over her blocker.
Her assist came after she made a play on the defensive left-win board, sending a pass to Shelby Reaugh who was streaking through the neutral zone. Reaugh glided in and found the back of the net.
