Diane Francis: Trudeau s immigration scheme is just another way to redistribute Canada s wealth

Article content It’s hard to imagine a bigger bungle by the Trudeau government than the vaccine fiasco and budget carnage, but now there’s immigration. Aims are to allow 1.2 million more permanent residents into Canada in the next three years when other, well-managed countries like Australia and New Zealand, are preoccupied with retaining the living standards of their existing populaces by trimming immigration. “History teaches us that when we grow our immigration levels, we grow our economy,” Canadian immigration minister Marco Mendicino said earlier this year, a lawyer without economic credentials. We apologize, but this video has failed to load.

Diane Francis: Health-care workers deserve to be fully protected

Article content The federal government’s decision to delay the second dose of lifesaving COVID-19 vaccines by upwards of four months has been controversial. What is not controversial is that our heroic health-care workers deserve all the protection they can get, because they are the ones putting themselves in harm’s way on a daily basis. And yet, they too are being forced to wait unreasonably long periods of time to get the protection they need. Now, two physicians from Belleville, Ont., have gone public to explain why front-line health-care workers deserve second vaccine doses immediately. “There is good benefit from one dose; however, if two doses provides the best protection against death, hospitalization, infection and transmission, this is the level of protection we want for our front-line health-care workers,” wrote Dr. Michele Miron, an emergency physician, and Dr. David Weinstein, a nephrologist, on a local news website. “This level of protection is critical for t

Diane Francis: Lives are at risk because the Liberals refuse to follow the science

In recent days, numerous health experts have spoken out about the risks of delaying doses Author of the article: Diane Francis Publishing date: May 03, 2021  •  May 3, 2021  •  3 minute read  •  Cole Pinnow, the CEO of Pfizer Canada, said in a recent interview that Canada’s decision to allow a 16-week spread between first and second doses rather than the recommended three weeks is not based on science. Photo by Fabrizio Bensch/Reuters files Article content Should we be concerned that Canada is delaying the second dose of life-saving coronavirus vaccines to deal with the Liberal government’s inability to procure enough supply to vaccinate the population? Not if you buy the propaganda put out by the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC).

Diane Francis: With more seats than it deserves Atlantic Canada is awash in federal handouts

Article content In the last election, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberals got 6,018,728 votes, or a puny 33.12 per cent of the total, and the Tories got 6,239,227. Even so, Trudeau ended up with 157 seats and the Tories only 121. I analyzed the numbers in a piece I wrote last year in The Post which revealed the need for electoral reform. This electoral injustice was due to gerrymandering which has given the poorest part of the country everything east of the Quebec-Ontario border 14 more seats than it deserves, based on representation by population. So, it shouldn’t surprise that the Liberals have leveraged their illegitimate position by continuing the practice of sending money from the wealthiest provinces, through grants and equalization payments, to their Liberal strongholds.
