Diane Finley stepped down as Haldimand-Norfolk’s Member of Parliament on Tuesday.
The news came as a surprise, as Finley had previously announced she was going to retire after this term, but announced that she is now retiring effective immediately.
We spoke with Finley about the decision, and she said the date on the calendar is what pushed her over the edge to make the choice, and it is a very notable date in her life.
Local MP Diane Finley resigned from her seat in the House of Commons on May 11.
She previously had announced she would not be seeking re-election.
Today, she said the resignation is effective immediately.
She has been representing the riding of Haldimand and Norfolk since 2004.

“Every person, at some point, takes stock and decides it’s time to hit the reset button,” Finley said in an interview at the time. “It’s time for me to move on and it’s time for someone else to take the reins.”
