District has 2,600 employees 50 and older

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – Teachers and school staff 50 and older are getting their vaccines in Lake County, thanks to a partnership between the Lake County school district and the Florida Department of Health in Lake County.
Aaron Kissler, the Health Officer for the FDOH in Lake County, said they are following the governor’s executive order, meaning school staff 50 years old and up can sign up for a vaccine at their site off of Republic Drive.

“We have about 2,600 employees that are eligible based on the age grouping, and I know yesterday we did several hundred, so (of) those eligible we’re hoping that everybody will come and take advantage of the opportunity,” Lake County Schools superintendent Diane Kornegay said Thursday.

A link to Let s Talk! a cloud-based platform that launched Wednesday is available on the district s website (lake.k12.fl.us) by clicking on the Contact Us tab. Parents and other members of the public can submit an inquiry or comment among 33 topics primarily focused on district departments. Those topics include public records, employment, safety and security or mental health, among others.
The message is forwarded to a person knowledgeable in that area.
“We’ve always prioritized responding to the public promptly and accurately, whether by email, phone or face to face,” Superintendent Diane Kornegay said in a news release. “Those options will still be available.

Lake County took advantage of a teacher planning day on Tuesday to begin administering the coronavirus vaccine to staff.
TAVARES, Fla. - Lake County Schools vaccinated some of its at-risk employees on Wednesday.
The district took advantage of a teacher planning day to become one of the first school districts in Central Florida to vaccinate its employees. It was easy, substitute teacher Eileen Bender said. You filled out your forms. You waited. You got your shot. They made it a very pleasant experience.
Tavares High School’s gym was converted into a vaccination site for about 800 employees. Shots were available for staff 65 and up, school nurses and medication-trained employees who cover school clinics when nurses aren’t available.
