The government has introduced a mandatory 14-day quarantine period for all travellers arriving in Bangladesh from London after the discovery of a new variant of Covid-19 in the United Kingdom.
The decision was taken at a virtual cabinet meeting presided over by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday.
After the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam said: Especially, people arriving from London must undergo a 14-day institutional quarantine regardless of their Covid test results.
When asked about the quarantine venues, the secretary said Diabari, Ashkona Hajj camps and hotels will be used as quarantine centers for the travellers.

Even if they have a medical clearance issued the day before their flight, the passengers arriving from London must still undergo a compulsory 14-day quarantine. The prime minister has given us clear instructions to that effect, Anwarul told reporters at the Secretariat.

Another 161 passengers from the United Kingdom landed in Bangladesh today amid the spread of a new strain of Covid-19 in that country.
Of the passengers, 144 landed in Osmani International Airport of Sylhet by a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines. And 17 passengers landed at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Nasrin Akter, a doctor at the health desk of HSIA, told The Daily Star.
After health screening, all passengers were allowed to go home as they had Covid-19 negative certificates. But they will have to stay in home quarantine for 14-days, added Dr Nasrin.
