The southbound lanes of Interstate 95 have reopened after more than four hours, but backups are extending for more than 12 miles, after a multiple-vehicle crash and fire between Dale City and Dumfries, Virginia, Tuesday afternoon.
The interstate was fully closed from exit 156 (Dale Boulevard) to exit 152 (Dumfries Road) after a crash that happened around 2:30 p.m. It involved several vehicles, and a tractor-trailer and one other vehicle “were burned to the ground.”
“At least one person was injured and has been flown to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries,” Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said in an email.

MANASSAS, VA A woman from Manassas won $1M in March 10 s Powerball drawing. She purchased the winning ticket from the Giant Food at 10100 Dumfries Road in Manassas.
The woman, Rosalind Abdool, considered herself to be a calm and unexcitable person, according to the Virginia Lottery. However, her demeanor was tested when she realized she had won the lottery. I was really, really surprised, Abdool said when she claimed her oversized check from the Virginia Lottery.
If you’ve ever driven on Virginia Route 234 past the Prince William County landfill, you may not have realized the area surrounding the highway has a name but a glance at the nearby water tower or public library reads Independent Hill.
