CTC rejects Bluefield State College request for satellite campus in Wheeling By June 3, 2021 - 1:12 pm The City of Wheeling and Bluefield State College agreed to an MOU in February on using parts of the old OVMC campus for a branch. WHEELING, W.Va. Following months of debate between officials with Bluefield State College, the City of Wheeling and local college leaders in Ohio County, the West Virginia Council for Community & Technical College Education rejected the request by Bluefield State College to offer three associate degrees at a satellite campus in the city. The council (CTC) made the motion unanimously to reject any type of offering on Thursday morning. The coordinating board for West Virginia’s two-year higher education system must approve any new associate degree programs for it to begin.

May 18, 2021 DEI Selected For West Liberty University WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., May 17, 2021  West Liberty University hired Shemrico Stanley as its inaugural Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) officer recently. Stanley’s full title is Special Assistant to the President for DEI and Strategic Initiatives. “I had the privilege of working with Mr. Stanley at Voorhees College and am aware of his work ethic,” said Dr. W. Franklin Evans, WLU president. “He is extremely organized with an analytical approach to handling issues. He knows how to get expected results.”  Stanley was formerly the chief of staff and executive director of Title III Programs at Voorhees College, Denmark, S.C. Additionally, he is an experienced educator who served as an adjunct professor of criminal law, also at Voorhees College.
