A vaccination clinic in Daphne Tuesday distributed 400 doses of the Moderna vaccine, the first event of its kind in Baldwin County.
The clinic, which was overseen by the Alabama Department of Public Health, will restart Thursday with double the amount of doses.
Jenni Guerry, spokeswoman with the Baldwin County Emergency Management Agency, said people attending the vaccine clinic at the Daphne Civic Center get a reservation card in person before they can receive the vaccine. She said reservation cards will be available on site at 6:30 a.m. on Thursday. The cards will provide details on when someone can return for their shot.

Mobile County officials are preparing the Alabama Cruise Terminal ahead of the first major COVID-19 vaccination distribution effort in coastal Alabama on Saturday.
Large-scale vaccination efforts in Mobile County come at the same time that Alabama officials counter the bad public relations over the state’s abysmal vaccine distribution rate. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data, the state ranks dead last in the percentage of residents who have received a COVID-19 vaccine.

Alabama health officials are increasing access to the COVID-19 vaccine starting Monday, January 18, when people age 75 and older and first responders become eligible under the state guidelines.
Demand for the vaccine is currently higher than supply, so those interested in getting the vaccine may have to be patient. The vaccine hotline operated by the Alabama Department of Public Health received more than a million calls during its first days of operation. That hotline, 1-855-566-5333, will help match eligible recipients with available vaccines at local health departments.

The Mobile County Health Department confirmed Thursday and again on Friday that it gave out doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to people who were not eligible to receive one.
The doses were administered during a “soft opening” earlier this week of a mass vaccination clinic scheduled for Saturday at the Alabama Cruise Terminal in downtown Mobile. And health officials will be making sure only those eligible will receive a vaccine at that clinic.
