Jury sworn in at Chester Town Hall for Bosley Mill explosion trial

A JURY has been sworn in for the trial of a Cheshire mill owner charged with the manslaughter of four employees who died in an explosion. Director of Wood Treatment Limited George Boden, 64, appeared at the Nightingale court at Chester Town Hall on Wednesday along with managers Philip Smith, 58, and Peter Shingler, 56, who are both charged with a health and safety offence. The three men, as well as Wood Treatment Limited, are charged in relation to the explosion at the mill in Bosley, Cheshire, on July 17, 2015, which killed Dorothy Bailey, 62, Derek Barks (known as William), 51, Derek Moore, 62, and Jason Shingler, 38.

Southampton man died after jumping from Itchen Bridge

A SOUTHAMPTON man died after jumping from the Itchen Bridge, an inquest opening heard. Aled Roberts was recovered from the River Itchen on December 8, this year, and taken to Southampton General Hospital. Winchester Coroner’s Court heard that the Tunstall Road resident was treated but he pronounced dead the same day. Opening the inquest, area coroner Jason Pegg said that the 44-year-old was witnessed jumping from the Itchen Bridge. A post mortem conducted pathologist Dr Sanjay Jogai found that Mr Roberts died of cardiac arrest following the fall from height. Mr Pegg adjourned the hearing and full inquest will take place on September 2, 2021.
