Portlaoise Court: Man with 53 convictions stole razor blades and aftershave

A Portlaoise man, who while homeless, stole razor blades valued at €106.97 and aftershave valued at €50 had his case adjourned when he appeared before Judge Catherine Staines last week.
He pleaded guilty to theft of the razor blades from Dunne Stores, Mountmellick Road, Portlaoise on 12 July and to the theft of the Hugo Boss aftershave from Hughes Pharmacy, Main Street, Portlaoise on 17 July.
Portlaoise District Court was told that the defendant had 53 previous convictions, 20 for theft.
Defending solicitor Philip Meagher said that his client was released from prison on 20 June. He had been working with the Probation Services in Carlow who were engaging with Laois County Council in trying to source accommodation for him after his release. However none were found.
