DUDLEYVILLE Ariz. (AP) - A small community in south-central Arizona remained under an evacuation notice Friday after crews and air tankers stopped the growth of a wildfire that burned at least 12 homes, officials said.
The fire burned through thick vegetation at the bottom of the Gila River in Dudleyville, a census-designated place with a population of about 1,000 located off Highway 77 about 60 miles (97 kilometers) north of Tucson.
Officials said the fire continued on Thursday to an estimated 500 acres (2 square kilometers) with containment around 20% of its perimeter as of Friday.

Extreme drought fueling Margo Fire, burning 500 acres and evacuating hundreds in Dudleyville Jamie Landers, Arizona Republic
A 500-acre fire is burning in southeastern Arizona and the National Weather Service in Tucson said extreme to exceptional drought is fueling the flames.
The Margo Fire is burning in Dudleyville, a small community in Pinal County. As of 9:30 a.m. Friday, the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management said the fire was only 20% contained.
Dudleyville remained in GO status Friday morning, meaning people should evacuate, which was put in place at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. About 200 residents have been evacuated and must remain in place due to extreme fire behavior, proximity to involved fuels and exposure to smoke and products of combustion. The department said Friday it also must do damage assessments before utilities can be turned back on.
