(Shutterstock) WAPPINGER, NY A 71-year-old southern Dutchess County woman was accused of killing a 72-year-old woman. The New York State Police, in conjunction with the Dutchess County District Attorney s Office, arrested Joan M. Darcy, 71, of Wappinger, Wednesday and charged her with second-degree manslaughter, a felony. Police said, on Nov. 5, troopers from the Wappinger barracks went to a home on Scarborough Lane in the town of Wappinger to investigate a deceased woman. Subscribe They found the victim Carol A. Darcy, 72 had died of blunt force injuries.

In making recommendations for the department’s state-mandated modernization plan, the Beacon Police Reform Committee noted there is a dearth of mental health services and support. Last week, the city took steps toward remedying that. On the same night the Beacon city council adopted its police reform plan to submit to the state, the council created space in the police department’s budget to hire a mental health specialist.

Read / Add Comments A 41-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly stealing more than $88,000 in tax funds collected for the use of an area town and its schools.  Jennifer Colucci, of Hopewell Junction, was arrested on Tuesday, March 2, following an investigation by the state Comptroller s Office, the Dutchess County District Attorney s Office, and the New York State Police. She served as Beekman tax collector for two years, ending in August 2020. “While people across the state struggled to deal with the economic impact of the pandemic, Jennifer Colucci allegedly used taxpayer dollars to fund her own personal online shopping,” Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli said.
