Amy Lott has fond memories of her time as a student at Duncanville High School.
She was a cheerleader, took media technology classes and participated in student council.
Her favorite educator was English teacher, Doris Whitley.
“She always encouraged me to write,” Amy said.
Amy graduated high school in 1998, and she and Mrs. Whitley kept in touch through the years. About 10 years ago, Mrs. Whitley invited Amy to her birthday party at what Amy described as a ‘swanky place’ in downtown Dallas.
“She had a huge celebration and there’s a picture of the two of us dancing together,” Amy said. “I [later] invited her to my baby shower. She’s just a fabulous human being.”

Duncanville ISD is reaching out to their students several ways, through specially equipped school buses to provide high speed internet. and by personally contacting students.
A new program called ‘WiFi on Wheels’ takes internet access to students who may have unreliable or no service at all. School buses equipped with internet transmitters are parked in four locations throughout the district. They offer free wi-fi to as many students as possible. Because buses are mobile, the internet access locations can change to meet the needs of students.
“This program gives us another layer of support through a different avenue,” said Andrea Fields, the Duncanville ISD Chief of Staff and Operations. “People don’t typically think of transportation supporting internet access for students. To complement what we’ve already done through the Technology Department, we hope we’re helping to close the digital divide.”

He graduated from University of Texas-Arlington in 1990 with a business management degree and joined the Frank Homer Sr. family when he married Monica Homer in 1994. The couple moved to Paris in 2000 after Eddie joined the family Sonic business and became operations manager for its Paris operations. He and brother-in-law, Mark Homer, became partners in the business after the death of the family monarch.
