#WeMakeEvents gives evidence at DCMS hearing on UK festivals

#WeMakeEvents gives evidence at DCMS hearing on UK festivals UK – On Tuesday 2 February, #WeMakeEvents gave evidence during a DCMS Select Committee inquiry into the future of UK festivals, represented by the leader of the campaign’s political group Duncan Bell who detailed the ongoing challenges faced by the live events and entertainment industry. When asked if there is a problem with people leaving the industry due to COVID-19 Duncan answered that: “Freelancers have been forced to find work elsewhere. In a recent survey of 2,800 people over 30 per cent of freelancers said they have had to leave the industry, and 20 per cent say they hope to come back but are very unsure whether they are able to because of the lack of certainty.” #WeMakeEvents is currently verifying the data from this survey and will be publishing the full report in the coming weeks.

Picture: Paul Zukowskyj - Credit: Archant The annual budget has been passed by Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council with an additional verge protection amendment.  At the meeting of the full council on Monday, the Lib Dem group proposed to set aside £25,000 to parking services to protect verges outside normal hours and increase enforcement, which was agreed to by Conservative and Labour councillors.  But a further Lib Dem amendment to increase social housing by setting aside around 200 garages and turning them into homes, and appointing a climate change officer was rejected by both the opposition and controlling group.

Hatfield car parking changes consulted on | Welwyn Hatfield Times

The multi-storey car park is still being built. - Credit: Alan Davies A three-hour free parking period with chargeable long stay options could be introduced across Hatfield town centre car parks next year. It follows a parking survey carried out by Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council with local businesses, which revealed 70 per cent of customers need to park for under three hours, in line with the town’s current restrictions. However, local businesses also wanted to enable people to stay for longer periods than most restricted spaces currently allow. And its now proposed to charge people £3.50 for three to four hours and £6.50 all day, as recommended by the council’s town centre regeneration board.
