Today s letters: Two jobs is one too many, Gen Hillier

Try refreshing your browser, or Today s letters: Two jobs is one too many, Gen. Hillier Back to video The Citizen informs us that Ontario’s vaccine rollout person, retired general Rick Hillier, has taken another job, this time with an Ottawa defence company. The job, we’re told, will not interfere with his vaccine rollout responsibilities and will involve merely “light duties.” I’m not certain what Hillier has actually been doing in his job with the Ontario government. We rarely see him, the COVID-19 virus is clearly not under control in the province quite the opposite, in fact and we seem to be having trouble acquiring the vaccine whose rollout Hillier is supposed to be leading. It seems to me that, to-date, his government duties, like the ones he’ll take up with the defence company, might be called “light” as well, given the shockingly alarming state of COVID-19 in the province.

Today s letters: Leave the big-box stores alone, people

Article content An essentially bad idea I am dismayed that you publish certain letters concerning the big-box stores, which are still able to sell items they deem “not essential.” Our government and health “experts” have not provided one single statistical or epidemiological study proving that small businesses and stores are vectors of COVID infection. Instead, they made subjective guesstimates, which have devastated our economy and people’s lives. We apologize, but this video has failed to load. Try refreshing your browser, or Today s letters: Leave the big-box stores alone, people Back to video Now we have narrow-viewed citizens among us who want to ensure that everyone is equally miserable: “If I can’t have it, then no-one else should.” I wonder why these writers did not pursue their logic to its proper conclusion. Since they deem clothing, house-fittings, etc. as non-essential, why are they not prepared to ban all non-essential food items, for example?

1 conducted a Stakeholders Meeting to address employer concerns about the COVID-19 Emergency Temporary Standard (ETS) issued by the California Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA), explain the ETS’s key provisions, and establish a focused agenda for an upcoming Advisory Committee Meeting during which Cal/OSHA will consider amendments to the ETS. Background on the ETS The ETS took effect on November 30, 2020, over the objections of several employers, trade associations, employer agencies, and defense counsel. It consists of five particularly notable sections addressing COVID-19 prevention, multiple COVID-19 infections and COVID-19 outbreaks, major COVID-19 outbreaks, COVID-19 prevention in employer-provided housing, and COVID-19 prevention in employer-provided transportation to and from work. Subsequently, in an attempt to clarify ambiguities stemming from the ETS, Cal/OSHA issued guidance on the ETS, including FAQs.
